Saving the world one rug at a time
Rugby 🏉 Jim
A retired gentleman of a certain age (OK, an old man)
was pondering how to spend his retirement time
more productively. He wanted to help make the
world a better place.
The problem was that he was not what you would call a "joiner". Having worked for many years with large corporations and schools, he now avoided joining any organization that had officers, minutes, agendas, and
worst of all, stretch goals or quotas.
His wife, Connie, an accomplished quilter, suggested he learn to crochet and make rag rugs. His immediate reaction was: that's nuts.
Hmm...he then thought. That idea had its merits. It used his creative side; it could be done at home; and it would occupy his time in a constructive manner.
Then it dawned on him. Even better yet, he could make the rugs; sell them, then give all the proceeds to
to one of his favorite charities, either Doctors Without Borders or Operation Smile.
And thus the story of how Jim Thompson became Rugby 🏉 Jim!
After making and selling rugs at $25 apiece for 3 1/2 years, Rugby 🏉 Jim made his goal:
$3,000 donated to Doctors Without Borders.
Alas, Rugby Jim has retired his crochet hook and no longer makes rugs for sale.
Thanks to all of you who have purchased a rug and helped to make the world a better place.
Thanks also to all of you who have supported me in a variety of other ways...too
many to mention individually, but not too many to ever forget.
